Thomas Partey was on target in Arsenal’s victory over Daniel Amartey’s Leicester City

Thomas Partey continued his impressive form this campaign by scoring the first goal as Arsenal overpowered Leicester City at the Emirates on Sunday to remain in serious contention for a place in next season’s Champions League.

The Ghana star rose highest in the box to nod home a corner that set the tone for the Gunners to claim a 2-0 victory over the Foxes.

Partey’s Black Stars teammates Daniel Amartey was among Leicester’s backline and had a decent outing.

However, it was Partey who stole the headlines once again with a terrific performance much to the delight of the Arsenal faithful.

The midfielder’s goal gave Arsenal the lead in the 11th minute. Leicester have conceded more goals from corners than any other Premier League team, and Arsenal duly scored with their first corner as Partey powerfully headed home from Gabriel Martinelli’s delivery.

Moments later, Partey came close to scoring his second of the afternoon as his superb curling effort clipped against the bar from the edge of the area.

Arsenal doubled their lead in the 59th minute with Partey involved. Alexander Lacazette scored from the penalty spot, after referee Anthony Taylor and VAR determined that Partey’s header had brushed the fingertips of Çağlar Söyüncü before being cleared off the line by Luke Thomas.

The Gunners held on for a great victory that takes them back to fourth having placed three games less than the chasing pack.

Partey has scored two goals for Arsenal this season and is beginning to feel absolutely comfortable at the Emirates.

His immense quality has been on display often and the Arsenal fans are loving him. This is also good news for Ghana ahead of the 2022 World Cup playoff against Nigeria this month.

Before Sunday Partey was named Arsenal Player of the Month for February. His first personal accolade since arriving at the club in the summer of 2020 in a deal worth a staggering 50 million euros.
